by Lara McLain Contributing Writer
If you're looking for a fun way to get into the holiday spirit, why not treat yourself to tickets to one of the best Christmas shows?
As the holiday season draws near, theaters around the world are bringing Christmas magic to the stage with both classic productions and fun, new shows. I've compiled a list of five must-see shows that will fill you with holiday cheer.
The Nutcracker
A list of the best Christmas shows is incomplete without this holiday classic. I was 11 years old when I first saw The Nutcracker and was instantly mesmerized. It's the perfect mix of magical and entertaining, and it never fails to bring joy to the audience.
Many theater companies put on their interpretation of The Nutcracker during the holiday season. It's sort of a staple, and I can't recommend this show enough if you have young children. That being said, I think it's a great show for all ages!
Home Alone In Concert
Home Alone in Concert is another of my picks of five best holiday shows. The LA Philharmonic puts it on its annual schedule at Walt Disney Concert Hall. If you live in or plan to be in the Los Angeles area I suggest picking up some tickets ASAP.
This show is a fun, musical twist on a lighthearted classic, and sure to bring some holiday cheer to your Christmas season. Home Alone In Concert features a screening of the 1990 film with a twist. Instead of a standard movie, the enchanting John Williams score is performed by a live orchestra!
Music lovers and comedy fans alike will definitely enjoy this production.
Elf the Musical
Elf the Musical is another great option for comedy fans. The beloved 2003 film was adapted for the stage in 2010, and it's been bringing holiday magic and laughs to audiences ever since. If you like the film, you'll adore this show.
This is another great all-ages option. It's witty, charming, colorful, and will leave you overflowing with holiday cheer. This is a particularly popular one, so be sure to get your hands on tickets as soon as possible!
Christmas Actually
If you're in London, you'll want to secure some tickets to see Richard Curtis' Christmas Actually. This variety show, benefitting Comic Relief, will without a doubt bring a smile to your face. The production includes everything from comedy to poetry, and will also feature live music.
Christmas Actually will run from the 7th to the 11th of December at the Royal Festival Hall in London. I'm betting it's about to be the must-see event of the year. So, if you're lucky enough to live or find yourself in London between the 7th and 11th of December I highly suggest that you grab some tickets to this production.
Peter Pan Goes Wrong
Are you familiar with Mischief Theatre? Then, I'm sure you'll be delighted to learn that the Mischief Comedy will perform their version of Peter Pan this holiday season. Best known for their award-winning show The Play That Goes Wrong, Mischief Theatre's take on the 1904 play is sure to delight and amuse audiences of all ages.
Peter Pan Goes Wrong, like Christmas Actually, is a show that will run in London this Christmas season. Described by one audience member as "Rib-achingly funny," this production is sure to fill you with cheer. If you're looking to laugh this holiday season, don't miss your chance to see Peter Pan Goes Wrong.
Free Shows Beyond Christmas Shows
There's nothing better than live entertainment to get you into the Christmas spirit. The magic of Christmas comes to life on the stage and fills audiences with holiday cheer. So why don't you brighten your Christmas season with a trip to the theater?
While these may be the best Christmas shows, there are many other productions hitting the stage this holiday season. With OTL Seat Fillers, you have access to free pairs of show tickets and private invitations this Christmas season and beyond.
