Onstage for A Doll’s House Part 2
The end of Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House ends with Nora’s exit. A Doll’s House Part 2 picks up the story 15 years later with Nora returning.
It’s a new story, released in 2017 by Lucas Hnath. It opened on Broadway in April, featuring Laurie Metcalf and Chris Cooper at the John Golden Theatre. Now, Steppenwolf Theatre is introducing Chicagoans to the story when the curtain goes up on January 31st at the Downstairs Theatre. Laurie Metcalf is one of the founding members of Steppenwolf, when productions were originally held in the Unitarian Church in Deerfield.
Not only is this a Chicago premiere of the play, but the first time that Steppenwolf is offering onstage tickets. To reach the stage, patrons will be escorted through the private backstage area.
Steppenwolf Theatre Company presents the Chicago premiere production of A Doll’s House, Part 2 by award-winning playwright Lucas Hnath, helmed by acclaimed director Robin Witt and featuring ensemble members Celeste M. Cooper (Emmy), Sandra Marquez (Nora) and Yasen Peyankov (Torvald), with Barbara Robertson (Anne Marie). Hnath’s bitingly funny play continues this classic story 15 years after the infamous door slam that ended Ibsen’s original play.
